Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Angela Kristy Potts, age 56, of McDonough, Georgia on Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Kris was born on June 14th, 1968 in Tucker, GA to Earl Potts (married to Sharron Potts) and Wanda Potts Dameron (married to Ray Dameron).

Kris is a graduate of Forest Park Senior High School and became a licensed massage therapist. Her gift was helping others. Diagnosed in her early adult life with Crohn’s disease, Kris was a warrior in every sense, facing life's challenges with grace and strength. Her legacy is one of perseverance, love, and unwavering support for those she cared about. She is best described as a world-class mother, fiancée, Gammie, daughter, sister, cousin and friend. To know her was truly to love her.

Kris is survived by her daughters Kassidy Shealy Jones (married to Austin Jones) and Kori Shealy Cook (married to Jackson Cook), fiancé John T. (Tommy) Sims, grandchildren Ashton Jones, Autumn Jones and Caroline Cook, brother John Potts (married to Jenifer Potts), sisters Ronda Phillips (married to John D. Phillips) and Jackie Beavers (married to Robert Beavers), as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

Kris was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan. The only thing that she loved more than watching sports was spending time with her family. Her wish was for those attending her memorial service to wear their favorite Braves or Bulldogs gear, or her favorite color pink.

A service to celebrate Kris’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. The family will have a visitation beginning at 10:30am. Service will start at 11:00am at Community Bible Church at 2001 Jodeco Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281. https://communitybible.church/ (https://communitybible.church/). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation at www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org (http://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/)

I first met Kris in middle school. She had the longest hair and it/she was gorgeous. She radiated sweetness and always had a smile on her face. We became closer through our school years. Our Senior year was the best. So many memories of laughing together and me french braiding her long hair or Kris painting our nails in class. We drove to PCB in her new red Trans Am on our Senior trip. She loved that car. I will cherish all of our memories! She loved her girls and was a great mother. I’m very grateful she was my best friend for many years. I saved our school IDs for over 38 years because our friendship was so special to me.

After Koris wedding Ms. Kris sent me the sweetest message that I will never forget. She was always so nice and caring to everyone she met.
“Hey Libby!! This is Kris. I just want to tell you how absolutely stunning you were on Saturday! You are always beautiful of course, but Saturday you were just stunning!🥰🥰🥰“ Kori and I joked about her txting me but it meant more to me than she probably realized. She will be greatly missed by so many.

My family and I will forever miss you. You were the person that no matter what you were going through you were always just happy and made everyone else around you happy. In my 38 years, I don't think I ever saw you without your huge smile. This world was better because of you. I love you and miss you.

I wish I could have spent more time with Krissy but for the time I did I am grateful. To know her was to love her and I am also grateful for the love she gave my brother, Tommy. She made a difference in his life and everyone’s life she touched. Ronnie and I will miss her dearly.

I remember coming over to hangout with Kori at Ms. Kris’ house and Kori always trying to scare her every opportunity she could. She would follow every single one of Kori’s (successful) attempts screaming “KORI!” or the famous “KORI MORGAN!!!” She had the most nurturing and loving energy, and I always felt like just another daughter when I was around her. Ms. Kris was the absolute sweetest woman. She was so selfless, kind, and had such a beautiful soul. She will be greatly missed.

I remember that it was always a running joke in the family that when I was a baby and even when I was a young girl, I was so shy that I would not go to Aunt Kris to hug or hold me... I would cry! However, one thing that I can certainly say now, and that I have known for many years, is that at the drop of a hat, I would be there to hug and love my Aunt Kris! She brought so much light into a room. The moment she would walk in, I wanted to make sure I was one of the first ones to hug her and tell her how much I loved her! She made me smile and laugh, and I know she had that same impact on so many people around her! We love her so much and will desperately miss her presence in our lives! 🩷

I knew the first time I met your mom that she was a firecracker. I am so honored to have known her. She loved everyone with ALL her heart especially her children and Grandchildren. She put up a good fight and I know how heartbroken you are. I pray for peace in your hearts and strength to carry on her legacy. God Bless You!
