Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ana Luz Montenegro on February 2, 2026, at the age of 83.

Ana Luz was born on December 29, 1942, in Lima, Peru, and was raised in Iquitos, where her lifelong devotion to family, faith, and home first took shape. The eldest of five children born to her parents, Delfa and Pedro, Ana Luz carried her role with strength, grace, and a deep sense of responsibility. Her Catholic faith was central to her life from an early age. As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming a nun, and that devotion remained a guiding light throughout her life. In her later years, she often spent long nights in prayer for those she loved, finding comfort in her strong connection to Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.

In 1969, Ana Luz married Carlos, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Together they raised their two daughters, Anita and Claudia, in Chosica, Peru. In 1984, she courageously led her family’s move to South Florida, following her parents and siblings in search of a better life and new opportunities for those she loved.

Ana Luz was known by many affectionate nicknames that reflected the different roles she held in the lives of those who loved her. She was lovingly called “Chichita,” most often by her husband, Carlitos; “Mamosita,” especially during her daughters’ adolescent years; and “Tatita,” the name most cherished by her grandchildren.

Strong-willed and determined, Ana Luz was fiercely devoted to her family and her independence. While she was never fond of heights or air travel, she still journeyed to New York and back to Peru—more than enough adventure by her standards. But she wasn't scared of change. Later in life, she pursued a lifelong goal of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, graduating at the age of 62 and proudly beginning a new professional chapter.

Ana Luz’s home was always a place of warmth and welcome. She found great joy in hosting family, filling her house with music, laughter, and the comforting aromas of her beloved Peruvian cooking. An avid cook and baker, she delighted in preparing meals and pastries, leaving behind handwritten recipes tucked into books and passed down with love. She had a special fondness for handkerchiefs, hair scarves, and all things silk, as well as a passion for collecting kitchen serving dishes and cookware—always more than enough. She also lovingly cared for 27 finches and canaries, a devotion that brought life and song into her home.

Ana Luz is survived by her sisters, Marta of Brazil and Mirta of California; her daughters, Anita Sofia and Claudia Lourdes; her son-in-law, Philip; and her cherished grandchildren, Paloma Deana, Penelope Lourdes, and Charles Dimitrio. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, quiet strength, fierce love, and the generosity of spirit she gave so freely to her family.

Her memory lives on in the prayers she whispered, the meals she prepared, the songs in her home, and the family she held together with love.

Obituario

She was a woman with a kind heart, a warm smile, and endless patience. Every time we were around, her she encouraged us to be better, to keep going to enjoy life with gratitude and joy, she had a special light that’s made everyone feel welcome and love. Proud Guadalupana, her faith was strong and inspiring. May our virgencita de Guadalupe welcome her with open arms and may her soul rest in peace.
Siga sonriendo. La queremos.
Familia Rojas.
