Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Alison Cupit announce her passing on 8 February 2026, at the age of 58, following a bravely fought and brief illness. Alison left us at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow, with her daughter Ellie, her brother Donald, her sister Sarah, and her partner Neil by her side. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by love .
Alison was a cherished daughter, sister, and above all, a devoted and adoring mother to Ellie. She was a truly remarkable woman whose kindness, compassion, and gentle strength enriched the lives of everyone around her. Alison had a natural warmth that made people feel instantly at ease, and she possessed a rare ability to make others feel valued, supported, and understood.
Her presence left a lasting impression, and she will be remembered not only by those who knew her well, but also by the many whose lives she touched along the way. The kindness she showed, the love she gave, and the light she carried will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
Her wonderful sense of humour and her vibrant, outgoing nature brought joy wherever she went. She had a gift for lifting spirits, for offering comfort without hesitation, and for bringing people together with her generous heart. Whether through a thoughtful gesture, a listening ear, or a burst of laughter at just the right moment, Alison made the world feel brighter.
A funeral service for Alison will take place on 5 March 2026 at 10:30am at Whippingham Crematorium, Station Lane, Whippingham, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO32 6NJ. The family kindly ask that guests do not wear black. Instead, they would love everyone to come in bright, happy colours in celebration of Alison’s life. She was vibrant, full of warmth and colour, and the family wish for this to be reflected as they gather to say their final goodbye. Further information is included in the service details below, and the family would be grateful if you could RSVP.
Following the service, friends and family are warmly invited to join us at the White Lion Pub, Main Road, Arreton, Isle of Wight, PO30 3AA for a gathering to continue celebrating her life. More details are provided in the service information, and the family kindly ask that you RSVP so they can ensure everyone is comfortably catered for.
All who knew and loved Alison are warmly invited to attend. Donations in her memory may be made to Cancer Research UK.
Fundraising Events
On 10 May, Alison’s beloved daughter Ellie will be taking on a 10k run to raise money for Cancer Research UK, in loving memory of her wonderful mum. Ellie is not a runner and doesn’t enjoy running, but she is determined to take on this challenge. Any discomfort she feels will be small compared with what so many people face every day because of cancer. Alison was incredibly proud that Ellie would be taking part, and she would have been cheering her on every step of the way.
Alison’s niece, Georgia, has also taken on a heartfelt challenge of her own. Throughout February, she is completing 14 cold‑water dips, each one dedicated to those we have lost, those who are still fighting, and those who continue to show extraordinary strength. Her courage and commitment are a touching tribute to Alison and to everyone affected by cancer.
We kindly ask for your support for both Ellie and Georgia as they take on these meaningful challenges. If you are able to make a donation, please visit their giving pages using the links below detailed in the Donation section, where you can find full details of their fundraising efforts. Your generosity and encouragement will be deeply appreciated.
Alison's Departure
Alison, Sarah and Donald listened to Angus & Julia Stone in Ward 9 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. In the quiet early hours, at 2:41am on Sunday 8 February 2026, Alison slipped away while Crash and Burn was playing, opening with the tender line, “Won’t you take me?”.
She left halfway through the song.
Those words, and the song itself, felt incredibly fitting. In her final weeks, Alison longed to be driven to Scotland, and her brother Donald made that journey with her. They travelled through the night to honour her wishes. It was a road trip filled with laughter, memories, and moments of deep sadness, all the emotions that come when love and loss sit side by side.
If you feel able, please listen to the album in Alison’s memory. It’s a beautiful piece of music.
