Obituary

Aline Dealo Mathews, born July 20, 1948, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 78. A cherished mother to five children, Aline was a vibrant presence in the lives of those who knew her. She was known for her fun-loving, bubbly spirit, and her unwavering faith that was the backbone of her relationships with family, friends, and her community.

Aline’s laughter was infectious; her comedic outlook and keen wit could light up any room. As a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she offered steadfast love, guidance, and inspiration. Those who were blessed to know her will remember her for her strength, her motivation, and her unique ability to bring people together—often being the one who got everyone in line, always with care and kindness in her heart.

Funeral services honoring Aline’s life will be held at Jay’s House on September 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM. For the address, please contact Ashten or Patricia directly. Friends and loved ones are warmly invited to remain at Jay’s House for the repast following the service, or to join family at Cathy’s house “down the hill.” Both addresses will be shared at the conclusion of the service.

Aline’s legacy lives on in her family, her friendships, and in the many lives she touched with joy, faith, and strength. She will be deeply missed as she is with the lord dancing in heaven. We will Miss Grandma/Auntie Lou Rest in Paradise!.

Eulogy

Aline Deola Mathews was born on July 20, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert Mathews Sr. and Irene Mathews. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose presence brought love, laughter, strength, and wisdom to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Aline grew up surrounded by family alongside her brothers and sisters. She graduated from high school and later married her sweetheart, Chatty Mitchell. Together, they built a family and created memories that would last a lifetime.

Aline was truly a jack of all trades. She lived a life filled with hard work, determination, compassion, and purpose. She earned an Associate of Arts degree in Nursing and built a wonderful career while also dedicating herself to the people she loved most. She was the kind of woman who took charge, stood her ground, and did not take “no” for an answer. Aline was strong, independent, and never afraid to speak her mind.

But beyond everything she accomplished in her career, Aline’s greatest accomplishments were the lives she touched through her family.

She was an amazing grandmother, a loving mother, a devoted sister, and the best auntie anyone could ask for. She helped raise her children and grandchildren and was always there when her family needed her. Her love extended far beyond words. She showed up, she cared, she protected, and she made sure the people she loved knew they mattered.

Aline was blessed with five children: Warnell Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Catherine Mitchell, Norman Strawder, and Curtis Strawder, and 14 grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.

She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Robert Matthews Jr., Ronnie Matthews, Joyce Wilson-Fisher, Aaliyah “Darlene” Matthews, Reggie Matthews, Patricia Matthews, and Raymond Matthews.

Aline was especially proud of Lisa Wilson, and she was extremely proud of her granddaughter Daizhana Moore. Her love for her family was one of the greatest treasures of her life.

A Woman With a Beautiful Spirit

Aline had a personality that could never be forgotten. She loved to joke, make people laugh, and bring life into any room she entered. She had her own special sayings and ways of making people smile, including her famous:

“Now, do I look like a grandma to you?”

Her humor, her laugh, her stories, and her unforgettable personality will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Aline loved The Whispers and jazz music. The Whispers held a particularly special place in her heart because she went to school with members of the band. She talked about them often and proudly shared that connection with anyone who would listen.

She also enjoyed knitting, socializing, going out to eat, shopping, buying clothes, and spending time with the people she loved. She found joy in the simple things and created memories wherever she went.

As Aline grew older, her relationship with the Lord became increasingly important to her. She became more involved in her faith and wanted to be a light for her family—a source of hope, love, and encouragement. She loved God with all her heart and spent time reading her Bible.

Her Final Words of Love

Even during her final days, Aline’s heart remained focused on her family.

She spoke about how much she loved her siblings and wished that she could make things better. Her words reflected the love she carried for them throughout her life. She wanted her children to know that her love would always extend to them and that, no matter what, she would always be there for them.

Aline shared a beautiful final hope—that one day she would come back as an angel, walking the path alongside everyone she loved, remaining warm in their hearts and never truly being gone.

And perhaps that is exactly how she will live on.

Not only in Heaven, but in every laugh, every story, every family gathering, every lesson she taught, every person she helped, and every memory she left behind.

Aline was truly God-sent.

She came into this world and touched countless lives. Now, after a life filled with love, family, laughter, strength, faith, and memories, she has been called home to eternal rest.

Though our hearts are broken, we can find comfort knowing that Aline’s earthly journey is complete. Her love remains. Her legacy remains. Her lessons remain. And the memories she created will continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

We will miss this incredible woman who meant the world to us all.
