Obituary

Albert Franklin Brown Jr., a beloved husband, father, and community member, peacefully departed this world on March 17, 2025, at the age of 73 in Pinellas Park, FL. Born on a family vacation to Aberdeen, MD on October 8, 1951, Albert "Al"/ "Bud"/"Buddy" spent his life between his home in Columbus, OH with his mother Rosina J. Brown (née Eisenbraun) and father, Albert Brown, and alongside younger brother, David J. Brown and surrounding areas such as Chillicothe with dear Aunt Margaret and Lake White with Uncle Putsie & Auntie Doris.

His early life lead him a young man graduating Yearling High School in Columbus in 1969 to a career in the United States Air Force starting in 1970.  Albert was a Jet Engine Technician & Flight Engineer for the C-141A/B Transport. His adventures were many including an eight-day trip around the world to deliver a letter and being a part of Operation Homecoming in 1973. After the USAF worked for the airlines and began his education anew at USF.

A later-in-lifelong resident of Pinellas Park, Florida, Albert's curiosity and passion for aviation inspired his dedicated career as an aircraft mechanic and instructor at the National Aviation Academy and Cummins Power South. His skilled hands and expansive knowledge ensured countless aircraft took flight safely, while his patient teaching enriched the lives of many aspiring aviation professionals who were fortunate enough to learn from him. His colleagues and students will remember him not only for his expertise but also for his humor and his unyielding commitment to sharing knowledge.

Away from the hangar, Albert was a devoted film and photography aficionado. He spent countless hours behind the lens, capturing the beauty of life’s fleeting moments and creating timeless memories for those around him. His keen eye for detail and artistic flair brought immense joy and comfort to family and friends alike. In addition, Albert had a vast knowledge of movies, music and television spanning decades and could quote almost anything as he, as he put it, "wrote the script".

Albert shared his life with his beloved wife, Muriel Anne Brown (née Pickles), with whom he built a loving family and shared numerous adventures. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter. Albert's legacy lives on through his three children (Doris Brown, Victoria Brown and Albert Brown), daughter-in-law Tania Brown (née Ongay), four grandchildren (Abade Ongay, Arron Ongay, Zaida Ongay and Georgina LaFountain), two great-grandchildren Ivy and Lucas, as well his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Butterscotch "Georgie" Brown, all who brought him pride and joy and followed in his footsteps of seeking curiosity and fulfillment in their own ways.

The loss of Albert is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, ready smile, and unwavering love for his family and friends. As a man who valued connection and community, Albert's impact extends far beyond his family, touching the lives of neighbors, coworkers, and countless students.

Albert's life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held at the Imperial Point Clubhouse on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm with a small Lutheran service at 3:00pm. It will be a Celebration of Life, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the incredible life he lived. In addition, there will be a military interment at Florida National Cemetary in Bushnell, FL with military honors.

In his memory, Albert’s family kindly requests that those who wish to honor him do so by extending an act of kindness to someone else. It is in these small yet powerful moments of generosity that his spirit will continue to soar. If you are able to attend either ceremony, please use the electronic RSVP option so we will know to save you a seat.

I met Al when we were both trying to complete our degrees. We finally terminated our military service. We were in many of the same classes together and found the young students could not keep up with our life experiences. It made the work so much easier. I'm glad we met. We were total opposites but we both knew how to listen. (He was Rt. I was Lft)

Cousin Buddy as I knew him holds fond memories in my heart. My father was Aunt Rose’s younger brother Pete. We visited their family in Columbus Ohio several times in years past during our childhoods. I send my condolences to the family for your loss. With loving memories!

I met Al late in life when he applied for a job as a technical trainer at Cummins Power South. Even though he was new in the diesel engine field I knew immediately he had the skills to become a great instructor for us. Al became not only a great diesel engine instructor but also a good friend. He was whitty and funny at times and kept me entertained during our many trips to the Cummins factory in Columbus, IN. I have many fond memories of our time at Cummins.

Some of Buddy's obituary is incorrect. It says he was born in Pinellas Florida & in Maryland. It also said he grew up in Chillicothe, OH. And, it doesn't mention Buddy's Air Force service. I hope I can find who wrote this, but I'll try to contact whoever wrote it & ask them to correct Buddy's information. Joyce Hildenbrand Turnbull, a 1969 classmate who was also in my Lutheran confirmation class.

Buddy, as we knew him was our back door neighbor when we were kids. Our parents and us kids would often talk to each other over the fence. We grew up together and I graduated from high school with Buddy. I am so sorry to hear about Buddy’s passing! Prayers to family and friends.
