Obituary
In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Dr Akin Oluwole
It is with profound sadness, yet with deep gratitude to God for a life so beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and servant of God, Dr Akin Oluwole.
Dr Akin was an extraordinary man whose life was defined by faith, love, selfless service and generosity. He gave wholeheartedly to his family, to his friends, to his patients, to the Church, to people in need, and to all who crossed his path. To know him was to know a man who could be depended upon; a man whose door was open, whose counsel was wise, whose laughter brought joy, and whose instinct was always to ask how he could help.
Born in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, Dr Akin was the second of six children and the eldest son. In 1990, he married his university sweetheart, Dr Eno Oluwole, the love of his life and his soulmate, in Trinidad and Tobago. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with two daughters.
Above all his many accomplishments, Dr Akin treasured his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving father who worked tirelessly and sacrificially to care for them. His family was his priority, and he made sure that no need went unmet. He was also a caring brother who could always be called upon, and a devoted son who lovingly and selflessly cared for his parents as they grew older.
He filled our home with laughter, wisdom, guidance and reassurance. He was, by God’s grace, our provider and encourager, our mentor, our hero and our friend. Above all, we thank God for the gift of his life and for the countless ways He used him to bless, guide and strengthen our family.
A Life of Excellence and Service
Dr Akin was a lifelong learner, exceptionally well-read and committed to excellence throughout his life.
He attended Mayflower Secondary School in Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria, and the Federal Government College Odogbolu, before going on to obtain his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 1989. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) through the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 1997, and later completed a Master's degree in Medical Law and Ethics (LLM) at the Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University, in 2009.
Through hard work, determination and a genuine commitment to his patients, Dr Akin became a highly respected Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon. From 2006, he served within the NHS at Nottingham University Teaching Hospitals, UK, developing extensive expertise in treating all vascular conditions, with a special interest in minimally invasive radio-frequency closure techniques for varicose veins and endovascular keyhole aneurysm repair. He developed and led the complex endovascular aneurysm repair programme in Nottingham, UK until recently. He also worked across both the NHS and private sector, providing patients with modern, minimally invasive vascular procedures and evidence-based treatment, combining technical expertise with compassionate care.
Dr Akin Oluwole’s leadership and expertise extended far beyond the UK. He served as a visiting consultant vascular surgeon at Cedarcrest Hospital in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria, as well as at various other hospitals across Nigeria and other African and Asian countries. In this role, he shared his extensive knowledge and experience with colleagues, trained doctors and nurses in vascular surgical skills, and, importantly, brought his clinical expertise and leadership to both the development of those around him and the care of his patients. His unwavering commitment to the highest standards of clinical excellence was evident in everything he did.
Dr Akin was deeply passionate about teaching, and he devoted considerable time and energy to nurturing the next generation of vascular surgeons. He made a significant contribution to vascular surgical training in the UK and internationally. As Training Programme Director for Vascular Surgery with Health Education England, East Midlands, UK, he played a vital role in educating, mentoring and shaping future vascular surgeons. He also organised annual vascular training workshops in Nottingham, UK, generously sharing the knowledge, experience and expertise he had acquired throughout his distinguished career.
He volunteered with international medical charities, providing vascular surgical care in developing countries and disaster zones. His work touched lives far beyond the hospitals where he normally practised.
Dr Akin Oluwole has been recognised as one of the highest-rated doctors by his patients on Top Doctors and has been given the maximum 5-star rating.
For Dr Akin, medicine was more than a profession. It was another way to serve.
A Man Who Gave
When we think of Dr Akin, one word returns again and again: giving.
He gave his time.
He gave his knowledge.
He gave his resources.
He gave his wisdom.
He gave his friendship.
And, above all, he gave of himself.
He was selfless.
His generosity extended far beyond his family or professional life. In his spare evenings, when he could easily have chosen to rest after demanding days of work, Dr Akin could be found serving in soup kitchens, caring for people experiencing homelessness and helping his local church in Nottingham deliver aid to those who were in need.
He noticed people in need, and he did something about it.
Whether someone needed practical help, financial support, encouragement, mentoring, guidance, prayer or simply a conversation, Dr Akin was there. His door was always open. If you came to him with a problem, you could trust that he would do everything within his power to help.
Helping others was simply part of who he was.
A Faithful Servant of God
At the very centre of Dr Akin's life was his faith in Jesus Christ.
He was a servant of God who loved the Lord deeply and sought to live out his Christian faith not merely in words, but through a life of service and in the way he treated people every day.
His faith showed in his generosity, compassion, hospitality, and commitment to serving others.
He was a pastor and shepherd to many, and a source of counsel, encouragement, and spiritual guidance for those God placed around him.
His life reminds us that greatness is not simply found in what a person achieves, but in how faithfully they use what God has given them for the good of others.
He used his surgical skills to heal.
He used his mind to teach.
He used his resources to provide.
He used his home to welcome.
He used his voice to encourage and guide.
And he used his life to serve.

Dr Akin's life positively impacted countless people, quite literally, across the world.
There are patients who are alive today because of his work.

His legacy therefore cannot be contained within a list of qualifications, positions or achievements, remarkable though they were. His greatest legacy is found in the lives he touched.
Dr Akin Oluwole, our beloved Akinyemi, was truly one of a kind. Widely known as Mr Oluwole or simply Akin in his professional life, he was also known to many others as Dr Akin, Pastor Akin, or just Akin. There has never been, and never will be, anyone quite like him.
Our loss is immeasurable. We will miss his laughter, his counsel, his strength, and the reassurance of simply knowing he was there. Yet even in the depth of our grief, we do not grieve without hope.
We thank God for the extraordinary gift of his life. We thank God that we had the privilege of loving him and being loved by him. We thank God for every conversation, every laugh, every lesson, every act of kindness and every memory that we will carry with us.
And above all, we are comforted by the Christian hope that the God whom Dr Akin loved and faithfully served throughout his life has received him into His presence.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord”. Matthew 25:23
His earthly work is finished, but his legacy remains.
And while we mourn him here, we hold tightly to the promise of Christ and look forward in faith to the day when we will meet again.
“…And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord…we shall always be with the Lord”. 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17

Tributes & Memories
While we do not mourn like those who have no hope, the pain cannot be denied. I still remember my very first Sunday he came to pick me for church service from my hostel till our last celebration in June.
All I can pray is that the 4th man in the fire, the Prince of Peace and Great Comforter keeps his family and dear friends till we meet again in Glory.
Life is indeed like mist — it can disappear in an instant. Hupenyu idova hunozunzika!
You and your beloved wife were more than just friends to us; you were family. You were closer to us than a brother, and your kindness, warmth and friendship will forever remain in our hearts.
It is difficult to find the words to say goodbye to someone so special. You will be deeply missed, but the beautiful memories we shared will live on forever.
Fly high, my brother. 🕊️
May the Lord receive you into His eternal rest and comfort your beloved wife, our dear sister and friend, and the entire family during this heartbreaking time.
Rest in eternal peace, Dr. Akin. You will never be forgotten. 💔🕊️
At Ijebu-Ode, we met again during his father's funeral. and we had excellent and exciting moments together. I was full of expectations when he said he was getting ready to return to Nigeria. I can go on, endlessly. My heart is so empty that I'm having a feeling that part of me has gone with him.
Ambrose Uchenunu
Your gentle spirit and good heart will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace Dr. Akin, You will be deeply missed.
BANJO SUNDAY
the surgeon. From that time, everything started to fall into place and I saw an end to my pain. He followed up to ensure everything went well. Akin Oluwole is remembered for his support, empathy and care among other things. This is the trademark of the family; all that is needed is to bring an issue to their attention and they take it up personally and would only stop when the matter is resolved. A friend to one of them is a friend to all. Lord, you know it all and as it pleases you to call Akin home at this time, we will not despair but believe in your love and wisdom. Give us strength to go on; take us through this difficult time Lord because we don’t know how to continue. May Akin’s charitable soul rest peacefully and may God comfort the family he left behind. Amen.
He will be dearly missed.
Dr. Akin, you have fought the good fight and you have left us with the most indelible pleasant memories of a lifetime. You may be gone but you will NEVER be forgotten.
Your Friend,
Segun.
He achieved so much in his lifetime and truly lived an impactful and meaningful life.
